Personal Computer Keyboard Add-on - Dismantled for reference and curiosity
The CreatiVision Dick Smith Wizzard Moving-Key Keyboard (model Y-1608) is an official hardware add-on for the CreatiVision Dick Smith Wizzard microcomputer/game console; see other page in this section for that hardware.
While the CreatiVision natively incorporates a membrane QWERTY keyboard, as with most membrane keyboards, it's horrible to use for any prolonged period and so the Moving-Key Keyboard was released.
Unfortunately it's also pretty horrible to use due to the rubber keys, however it's still much better than the membrane one.
As shown below, the Moving-Key Keyboard fits into the joystick storage bay and plugs into both player one and two's joystick ports replacing the joysticks. The keyboard has two sliding covers that when opened reveal joystick pass through ports so the joysticks can again be connected to the base unit without having to remove the keyboard.
While boring to look at and average to use, this keyboard is one of the nicest and most seamless add-on hardware pieces I've seen for a vintage microcomputer or games console. It fits perfectly, does exactly as advertised and pays testament to the CreatiVision's other premium design elements. Had it been made with spring loaded keys it would have been excellent!
